Rossendale Police Day of Action

Police Seize £62,000 Worth of Illicit Tobacco in Rossendale Day of Action

Rossendale Police, in collaboration with partner agencies, executed a successful day of action on Wednesday, May 14th, addressing community concerns with significant results. The operation, prompted by feedback from the Lancashire Talking survey, aimed to enhance safety and curb illegal activities in the area.

The initiative included targeted efforts during school pick-up and drop-off times at a local primary school, where officers and Lancashire Parking Services engaged parents and children on the importance of legal and safe parking practices. This proactive approach followed community worries about child safety and illegal parking practices.

High-visibility patrols were conducted in Deardengate and the town centre, focusing on eliminating irresponsible parking behaviors. Concurrently, a joint effort with Together Housing covered the Greenfield Area and Central flats, addressing specific concerns voiced by residents.

The day’s operations also involved Trading Standards, resulting in enforcement visits to local shops. In Haslingden, authorities confiscated 3,200 illicit tobacco products, including cigarettes and vapes, valued at an estimated £54,000. A second visit in Waterfoot yielded approximately 700 illegal cigarettes and vapes, valued at around £8,000.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Paul Marsden highlighted the impact of the operation: “Removing this quantity of illegal tobacco products from Haslingden and Waterfoot streets is significant. It underscores our commitment to addressing community concerns and collaborating effectively with partner agencies.”

Sergeant Marsden encouraged continued community engagement: “We urge residents to report concerns promptly, enabling us to take effective action. Participation in the Lancashire Talking survey and signing up for ‘In the Know’ are vital steps in staying informed about local issues and initiatives.”
