Appeal for Information After Death of Southport Man Jake Carroll in Little Plumpton

Lancashire Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the death of 30-year-old Jake Carroll, who was found with critical injuries in the early hours of Saturday 18th May on Preston New Road in Little Plumpton.

Jake, who was from Southport, was discovered by officers at around 2.20am, unresponsive and suffering from a significant head injury. Emergency services were called, and he was taken to hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical staff, Jake sadly died on the evening of Thursday 23rd May.

Detectives from Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Major Investigation Team have launched a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding Jake’s death and are asking members of the public for their help.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.

Arrest Made, but Enquiries Continue

A 27-year-old man from Wesham was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He has since been released on conditional bail while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows, leading the investigation, said:

“First and foremost, my thoughts are very much with Jake’s loved ones at this distressing time. They have asked for their privacy to be respected as they come to terms with this unexpected loss.

“My job now is to establish the exact circumstances of how Jake came to be unresponsive on the pavement. Although we have made an arrest and this is very much being treated as an isolated incident, our enquiries are ongoing and I need the public’s help.”

Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

According to police, Jake was travelling in a taxi at the time of the incident, during which an altercation reportedly took place. Following this, he and others were asked to leave the vehicle. Detectives are particularly keen to trace Jake’s movements after he left the taxi and to understand what led to his fatal injury.

DCI Fallows added:

“I know there were a number of people in the area at the time, and I would urge anyone who hasn’t already spoken to police to please come forward. Similarly, if you have any dashcam footage from the Preston New Road area in Little Plumpton between 2.00am and 3.00am on Saturday 18th May, please get in touch.

“Any information, no matter how minor it may seem, could be crucial to our investigation.”
