Lancashire Police Win Global Award for Sustainability and Innovation

Lancashire Police have been crowned global winners in the Sustainability Driver category at the prestigious 2025 SS&C Blue Prism Customer Excellence Awards, thanks to a cutting-edge project spearheaded by their ICT department

.

The awards, held annually by SS&C Blue Prism, celebrate organisations worldwide that successfully harness intelligent automation to drive performance, efficiency, and innovation. Lancashire Constabulary stood out among global competitors for its pioneering use of technology to enhance sustainability, save resources, and boost community safety.

The award-winning initiative focused on streamlining data processes within the force. Through the deployment of intelligent automation tools, the Lancashire Police ICT department successfully condensed 3.2 million records down to just 48,000, dramatically improving data quality and accessibility for officers and staff. This efficiency not only increased operational speed but also directly contributed to better public service delivery.

In real terms, the initiative has already saved over £10.5 million—funds that can now be redirected to front-line policing and victim support across Lancashire. The project has also freed up countless hours that would have otherwise been spent on manual data handling, making it a major breakthrough in how modern policing adapts to the digital age.

‘A Testament to Innovation’

Gillian Routledge, Chief Operating Officer at Lancashire Constabulary, expressed her pride in the ICT team’s achievement:

“This award is an incredible achievement and illustrates our innovative ideas as a force.

Policing is fast moving, and projects like this save us years of manual data work. That time and money can now be re-invested into improving the service we provide to our communities and victims of crime in Lancashire.

This global award win is a testament to the fantastic work of our ICT department to improve operational policing. I am hugely proud of our ICT department, often our unsung heroes.”

This latest accolade places Lancashire Constabulary at the forefront of sustainable policing in the UK and globally, reinforcing its commitment to forward-thinking solutions and delivering top-tier public service through innovation.

Driving Future Change

As demands on police forces grow in complexity, the smart use of data and automation is becoming increasingly vital. By simplifying its digital operations and creating faster pathways to vital information, Lancashire Police are setting a national and international example of what can be achieved when technology is embedded into everyday policing.

The success of this project not only improves outcomes for the force, but also plays a vital role in increasing public confidence and trust in policing across the county.
